I believe therapy is an important tool to navigate the challenges throughout our lives. I work with children, adolescents, adults, and families struggling with a wide variety of experiences. I enjoy working with individuals exploring life changes and building their confidence and skills to take on the challenges that they experience. I have years of experience preparing families for the adoption journey, as well as working with families and children post-adoption. I have been trained as a Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) Practitioner that specializes in supporting foster and adoptive families heal trauma through building trusting relationships. I have traveled to countries around the world adapting parenting skills to best meet the needs of individual families. Additionally, I have experience working with individuals, families, and caregivers navigating chronic illness diagnoses. I counsel caregivers and families through anticipatory grief as well as after the loss of a loved one. Other areas of experience include trauma, anxiety, and depression. I utilize a strengths based, person centered approach. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) that I incorporate into my work as well as a variety of other therapy techniques.

Whether you are overwhelmed in your parenting journey, struggling with anxiety and depression due to past or present struggles, or grieving the loss of a loved one or relationship, I am here for you. I desire to support clients in a way that is most comfortable for them whether that be in person or through telehealth. I believe in partnering with my clients to build a trusting relationship where individuals and families can explore their thoughts and feelings in a safe environment. It is truly an honor to walk alongside my clients. You are the expert of your story, and I am here to support you as you write the rest of that story. I truly believe that every individual and family can benefit from therapy throughout their lives.

Ashley's Bio

Ashley Dykstra is a therapist serving all of Michigan through in person therapy in Grand Rapids and online telehealth therapy. Ashley uses she/her pronouns and is married with two children. She is a graduate from Grand Valley State University and has a Master of Social Work degree. Ashley provides individual and family therapy from a trauma-informed lens for children, adolescents, and adults. Her therapeutic experience has been focused in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Solution Focused Therapy. Ashley’s therapy approach is rooted in evidence-based interventions utilizing a strengths-based approach, mindfulness practice focused on the unique individual.
