Introducing Melodie Whitmore

Meet Melodie Whitmore Therapist Counselor

Melodie Whitmore is a limited licensed professional counselor (LLPC) located in Grand Rapids, MI. She completed her Bachelors of Art in Studio Art (after being a social work major for her freshman year) at Michigan State University. After working as a freelance wedding and family photographer in the Lansing, MI area for 3 years, Melodie returned to academia and her roots in mental health. She completed her Master’s of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Western Michigan University.

During her master’s program, Melodie was an intern at Pivot Crisis Center and worked with a variety of people who were going through some sort of mental health crisis. She has extensive experience working with people who are struggling with suicidal thoughts, distressing symptoms such as hallucinations and paranoia, problems regulating their emotions, and problems with substance abuse. She provided group and individual therapy for individuals within the residential program. After graduation, she was hired full time at Pivot, and switched to a case manager role, in which she provided individual therapy and helped set up aftercare for clients as they were preparing to discharge. She made the leap to private practice in August 2020.

In addition to her experience working with people in crisis, Melodie also works with individuals who are experiencing eating disorders, sexual assault, LGBT+ concerns, and who are victims of religious cults. She also provides couples counseling utilizing the Gottman method. She accepts a variety of insurances including: Blue Cross Blue Shield, ASR, Straight Medicaid, Blue Cross Complete, Meridian, McLaren, and out of network benefits.

In her free time, Melodie enjoys running lots of road races (one day she’ll get around to running a full marathon), playing video games with her husband, and spending as much time as possible in the woods or on the lakeshore. She is originally from a tiny town in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and tries to take a trip north of the bridge at least once a year. Melodie spends too much time listening to true crime or real-play D&D podcasts and tries to read at least 12 fiction (non-mental health related!) books a year.
