Counseling for Substance Addiction

Counseling for Substance Overuse or Addiction Counseling

At Health for Life Counseling Grand Rapids, we are not an exclusive addiction or substance abuse treatment center. However, depending on your level of substance use, you may be eligible for outpatient counseling care with our therapists. If you are using alcohol or marijuana at a medium to low level and you are noticing that this use is impacting your functioning or relationships–you may want to take the first step and get into counseling to prevent a larger problem from occurring.

We're Here to Help:

If you are already utilizing alcohol, marijuana, or other drugs in large quantities and frequently, you may need to enroll in an intensive outpatient addiction program, inpatient hospitalization or treatment center, and seek support though AA, NA, or SMART recovery groups.

Addiction counseling is typically used to help people reduce or cease using substances that they are either addicted to or have a difficult time staying away from. Addiction to substances can be a very dangerous diagnosis. If untreated, addiction can lead to loss of functioning, difficulties with school, jobs, relationships, and eventually even death.

Therapists who specialize in helping people overcome their addiction to drugs and/or alcohol may help a person understand the “stage of change,” work on insights, motivation, work on repairing relationships that may have been damaged, finding activities or hobbies that may appeal to them, work on forming new strong relationships, and even educational and vocational concerns.
