Learning Objectives
When given information about the 3 types of therapy discussed in this presentation participants will
- Understand what Somatic Experience Therapy is, how it is utilized, and how and where to seek advanced training in these techniques.
- Understand what EMDR Therapy is, how it is utilized, and how and where to seek advanced training in these techniques.
- Understand what TF-CBT is, how it is utilized, and how and where to seek advanced training in these techniques.
- Introduce Somatic Experiencing Therapy by discussing briefly how animals respond to trauma and how energy is trapped in the “playing dead” and how it is released. In the same way, energy can be trapped in the body in people in developmental (or other ) trauma. Regulating the nervous system is a base for the healing of trauma and is foundational in SE Therapy.
- Explain the “window of tolerance” as a metaphor for regulation, and offer an example from a developmentally traumatized person or persons, indicating how younger parts can be capsulized in freeze responses or flight/ fight patterns. These trapped energies with accompanying memories can be altered in therapy through bodily awareness and the felt sense.
- Provide an experience of the felt sense or working with the body for attuning to the body
- Provide training options through the SE institute in Boulder,
