Healing from Child Abuse & Reuniting with Siblings After Foster Care w/ Barbara Lane

Healing from Child Abuse

[Episode 128 of The Intentional Clinician Podcast]

Barbara Lane chats with Paul Krauss MA LPC about her incredible true tale of growing up in foster care, facing abuse, healing, and reconciling with her sisters after 43 years apart.

At three, being an orphan with my sisters wasn’t so horrible; it was pretty much all I knew. Love filled the vacuum left by our parents. But our separation shattered that love, and we were lost in the system, separated for the majority of our lives. The pain lasted 43 years until a miraculous discovery and reunion occurred. “Broken Water” is my account of surviving foster care abuse while searching for my sisters. It’s a trip of reunion, shared pain stories, and a celebration of strength, sisterhood, and faith.

Rev. Barbara Lane’s writing reflects her experiences as a foster child, educator, ministerial counselor, speaker, entrepreneur, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and author. Barbara de-stigmatizes the plight of child abuse survivors by revealing her personal experience, which inspired her to write “Broken Water.” Barbara’s studies in human development, social sciences, and family psychology, with an emphasis on child abuse, motivates her to share her knowledge of relevant themes, in addition to her 25 years of experience as a ministerial counselor in private practice. These issues include family, family separation, the foster care system, attachment and bonding, child maltreatment, relationship formation, the human spirit’s resilience, trauma healing, and the power that comes from believing in something greater than oneself.
