Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidence-based therapy treatment for adults, as well as children and adolescents (and their parents or caregivers) who have been impacted by trauma. Research studies have illustrated that TF-CBT has successfully resolved a broad array of emotional and behavioral difficulties associated with single, multiple and even complex trauma experiences.

TF-CBT is a form of therapy that incorporates cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to address the specific emotional and mental health needs of children, adolescents, adult survivors, and families who are struggling to overcome the devastating effects of early childhood trauma. TF-CBT is specially tailored to the unique issues of youth suffering from post-traumatic stress and mood dis-regulation resulting from violence, grief, and abuse. As TF-CBT interventions usually target children, a TF-CBT counselor often brings non-offending parents or other caregivers into treatment and incorporates principles of family therapy.

The Counselors at the Trauma-Informed Counseling Center of Grand Rapids (and Health for Life Counseling Grand Rapids) are all well versed in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and are all trauma-informed.

This means, that they not only have the same training as your average counselor or therapist in Grand Rapids, MI to conduct traditional counseling and talk-therapy, but they have additional tools and information that will be helpful to people who are looking for more than a “solution-focused brief approach” or a strictly “Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)” approach. And so, if you are seeking that type of counseling—we also can provide it.
