Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidence-based therapy treatment for adults, as well as children and adolescents (and their parents or caregivers) who have been impacted by trauma. Research studies have illustrated that TF-CBT has successfully resolved a broad array of emotional and behavioral difficulties associated with single, multiple and even complex trauma experiences.
TF-CBT is a form of therapy that incorporates cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to address the specific emotional and mental health needs of children, adolescents, adult survivors, and families who are struggling to overcome the devastating effects of early childhood trauma. TF-CBT is specially tailored to the unique issues of youth suffering from post-traumatic stress and mood dis-regulation resulting from violence, grief, and abuse. As TF-CBT interventions usually target children, a TF-CBT counselor often brings non-offending parents or other caregivers into treatment and incorporates principles of family therapy.
